Marianela Camacho is Venezuelan born. She was elected to the JAHP Board of Directors in 2017, but her interest began when she first saw Angel Falls in 2001 and met Karen Angel in the Kamarata Valley in 2012.

Marianela is an architect, professor and researcher at Universidad del Zulia in Venezuela, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture and a Master’s of Science degree in Comprehensive Planning for Tourist Development from Universidad del Zulia and a PhD. in Tourism and Leisure at UniversitatRovira i Virgili in Catalonia, Spain with a thesis about participatory cartography and sustainable local development of the indigenous communities of the Kamarata Valley.

She is passionate about ecotourism, sustainable tourism, protected natural areas and indigenous populations, especially indigenous cultures in her own country. Since 2011, she decided to focus her efforts, experience, and knowledge to support indigenous communities with the documentation of their culture, sustaining its historical and environmental legacy for future generations, and implementing international cooperation projects for local development.

Marianela Camacho supports the development of the Kamarata Cultural Centre leading International Cooperation Projects and being the Fundación Etnika General Director.
